Student FAQ

How fast do I freefall?

Freefall averages 120 miles per hour or 200ft per second.

Are the landings hard?

Normally there is less impact than jumping off a chair.

What clothing should I wear?

Dress in casual seasonably comfortable clothing like pants or shorts and T-shirt. Sports shoes are recommended.

Is there a weight limit?

Max weight for tandem jumpers is 250 lbs, however, for 231 lbs and over, there is an additional $20 charge. For Accelerated Free Fall students, the weight limit is 250 lbs.

*AFF students above 210 lbs must be physically fit. Trial fits in student parachute gear may be required before your ground school class.

Are there any age limitations?

You must be 18 years old and show a valid ID. There is no upper age limit as long as you are healthy.

Can we jump any day?

As long as we are open and the weather is above VFR (Visual Flight Rules) and safe minimums. Clouds, rain and wind may cause some delays depending on the severity.

What if my parachute doesn't open?

By FAA regulation, all intentional parachute jumps must be made with a single harness, dual parachute system with both a main and a secondary, or reserve, parachute. Basically, if one doesn’t work, you have another one. The reserve parachutes are inspected and repacked every 180 days by an FAA-certified rigger whether they’ve been used or not. Student main parachutes are packed by a rigger or are packed under direct supervision of a certified rigger. In addition, all students must have an AAD which will deploy if the student fails to activate either the main or reserve parachute.

Can I wear my own POV Camera?

Sorry, but no. While cameras are fun and all, they can also be quite distracting and compromise the safety of your jump. This is why we only shoot video/photos on tandem skydives with experienced videographers who are accustomed to handling both skydiving and a camera at the same time. According to the rules of the United States Parachute Association, student skydivers, like yourself, can’t use any personal video or photography gear during jumps. This ensures both your safety and that of your instructor.

You are more than welcome to use any camera gear you want on the ground before and after your jump.

Can I breath in free-fall?

Yes, however the excitement may leave you breathless!

What does it feel like?

We cannot describe the unique sensations you will feel, but we will tell you that it will be your most exhilarating experience yet!

How long do I freefall?

You will freefall almost 60 seconds.

Will I be scared?

It is normal to be apprehensive about jumping from an airplane. The airplane ride up is typically where most students feel the most anxiety, but few jumpers report feeling anything but exhilaration once they’ve left that door!

What height will we jump from?

You will jump from at least 12,500ft above the ground. That is 14,000ft above sea level!

Should I tip my instructor?

We’re often asked if tipping your instructor is appropriate.Yes, tipping is greatly appreciated, if you enjoy your skydive you may tip your instructor! A tip is a great way of communicating your satisfaction with your jump.

How experienced are the instructors?

Our instructors are all USPA qualified and have from between 700 and 13,000 jumps.
