SKYDIVE ELSINORE HOSTED THE SOS MEET
September 13, 14 & 15

World records were born at Skydive Elsinore in Lake Elsinore, California by the SOS team (Skydivers Over Sixty) after setting a 26-way record on Saturday, September 14th. The JOS team (Jumpers Over Seventy) also set a world record after creating a 9-way on Friday, September 13th. The SOS team did it again after breaking their own record, accomplishing a 28-way on September 15th.

The organizational mastermind behind this historical event was Joe Wasser. Wasser has made the attempt to create the largest formation with SOS skydivers and making or breaking world records an annual event. There are only a few skydivers in this age group that stay current and are still involved in the sport, and Wasser’s enthusiasm, energy, and talents brought SOS divers from all over the world to take part in this event.

Not only were world records set during this event, onlooking skydivers and those fortunate enough to engage in conversation with some of the SOS group took away priceless commodities: inspiration and encouragement in staying dedicated to this sport if you love it, regardless of age, sex, or anything that many others may call a "limitation." John Hamilton, co-owner of Skydive Elsinore, remarked "When I started jumping, I wanted to jump for the rest of my life. These guys have done it. I am impressed. They are an inspiration to all of us" (Parachute History). Young and old skydivers alike were all thoroughly impressed by the SOS divers, proving to the world that fun doesn’t have to end after sixty.
And the fun doesn’t have to end after seventy, neither, as the JOS team had proven after setting the 9-way record in the history books. Lew Sanborn, the holder of the D-1 license and a legend to the sport, was also a part of this JOS jump as well as both of the SOS record jumps. Sanborn has an incredible story to his life that is full of historical records and landmarks, and after his JOS jump at Skydive Elsinore this September, he’s proven that he’s not finished yet. I highly recommend checking out this man’s life story. Sanborn’s story is filled with some unbelievable experiences, moments of courage, and is loaded with inspiration. Lew Sanborn is a legend and a crucial member to the sport of skydiving. You can find Lew Sanborn’s story online at http://parachutehistory.com/men/sanbornl.html.

Here are the names of all the great record breakers from the SOS and JOS jumps. Congratulations to you all!
